About Shakira

Shakira is a queer nonbinary puertorriqueña politicized healer, mental health therapist, clinical supervisor, consultant, and facilitator. Shakira specializes in working with BIPOC and Latine clients, transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, folks from queer, bisexual, asexual, lesbian, and gay communities, folks who practice kink and/or ethical non-monogamy, neurodivergent and disabled individuals, and survivors of trauma and oppression.

Shakira’s role at Garden Counseling & Wellness Group entails utilizing a holistic healing centered approach to provide Clinical Supervision, providing a brave space for clinicians to access support and growth. They also have extensive experience supervising clinical and macro social workers, advocates, and mental health therapists in a variety of clinical and community-based settings.

As a therapist and as a clinical supervisor, Shakira works from a liberation health, trauma-informed, and transformative justice perspective that seeks to integrate the impacts of systems of oppression, cultural influences, and personal experiences into the liberatory and healing journeys of her clients. They believe growth happens when we are rooted in our integrity, engaging curiosity, leaning into discomfort, and embracing humor.
